Type of Water: Freshwater
Species: Brown trout
I guided a great sat water fisherman from the Washington DC area by the name of Thao Le. She was new to the freshwater game and new to fly fishing in general. I choose to take my beginning fly anglers to a great section on Spring Creek near Milesburg, Pa. This spot is easy to wade and has a lot of fish that usually cooperate with a well presented fly.
The weather on this day was sunny and unseasonably HOT...with high temps in the low 90's. I was worried the fish were going to be tight lipped because of the warm weather but Thao was hooked up in the first hour. She unfortunately lost that Spring Creek Wild Brown and as any good guide would do,I will take and accept all the blame for that fish spitting the hook.

Thao, being the trooper that she is didn't let the lost fish hold her down and soon after was hooked up again and this time I was fortunate to accomplish my job and net the fish for her. She was ectstatic and her quest for a Wild Trout on the fly was realized. I was honored to be a part of that with her.
Thao fished her butt off and caught several more fish throughout the day. The bite wasn't as hot as I would of liked but Thao was not discouraged and she only fished harder! You can't teach that determination and Thao will only get better and better in her future fly fishing ambitions. As of this writing she has already realized another fly fishing goal of catching a Bonefish on a fly. Way to go Thao!
The productive flies were San Juan worms, Zebra Midges, and Pheasant Tails. We lucked into a few fish feeding after sun down on emerging Sulphurs and Thao caught two fish on Sulphur Comparadun Dry Flies....Also a first for her!!
