It's that time of the year again! The sights, scenes and scales of the season...and the "Good Luck Pictures" my fishing buddy's twins sent us off with to make it happen! They worked awesome by the way!

Grande Ronde near Washington/Oregon border. We dropped camp, midnight in the dark and awoke to this beautiful run...which we only pulled a feisty rainbow from. A 3 inch small mouth bass on a 13 foot 7wt. was all we could muster that first day. Must have destroyed our "luck" with the cherry pie incident. Luck is very important in fishing! Looking down the Grande Ronde at the confluence with the Snake. Yes, it is a civilized zoo in October (prime time). Between the "Narrows" and the mouth of the Grande Ronde. The first day on the Snake gave us high water temps and no fish. Morning on the ' Ronde was better! A small hen's tail. Below the Narrows of the Grande Ronde. We need rain! This was Mitch's first steelhead outing of the season. Have we pressed the luck too far? Pressing the "kids' good luck drawings" yet again. This is the Snake river behind us. Uh-oh! Part of the developed ritual - the cherry pie fell off the hood and got run over. Is the "good luck" damaged? I found a wild buck among my 3. I'd say it was a good outing! Now come the crowds! He worked on this for several days over 3 seasons. He finished with 3 for the trip! Kris is on third fish of the day - he made a mess of the first, the 2nd his hook tip was broken! Would this be his first lower 48 steelhead? Kris working tight loops on his 7wt. switch rod The pictures still had "mojo". Had to wear the same shirt & hat too for good measure. No sink tips woo hoo! Fly fishing picture The second excursion of the season I took my buddy Kris down and we deployed the "good luck fishing pictures" from John's kids again! Sheep stood guard over our camp site and made sure we went home from our two day trip. I think some of these hatchery "Steelhead" don't quite go to the ocean staying or going to larger river systems as this marked fish indicates it traveled at least from an up river tributary. Nice hatchery buck! Next time you get a hold of a steelhead take a look at those tails. A work of natural art! Yes, I'll have another! Sunrise in the canyons Fly fishing picture John on again. More hatchery fish, still plenty fun until mother nature gets the upper hand again. A small, small mouth gets a little aggro! Well the ones with adipose fins anyway. Action. All intermediate tip and full float tip - even skated a few up but only landed one of them. We had a lot of river to ourselves; now that is not usual! John infusing the "mojo" via osmosis? John's kids: Fischer and Natalie gave us good luck pictures to take with us on our first day out.
