The second of four keeper size fluke from the surf. Again the mole crab fly was the ticket. Mole crab fly is the hot fly this year for me with summer flounder (a.k.a. fluke). Again summer flounder are in the wash and hungry. Had a big broad tail slap my fly as it started to come out of the water. Hooked up big time but the tug of war went to my adversary. A nice striper that hit in the trough and took line out to the second bar. Summer flounder have teeth, hunt it's prey and are vicious plus they can mimic the bottom. I liked the feeling of being dry catching some nice fish. Usually I'm in the water up to my waist, good to be on land. Hugh with the fruits of the battle. Released to fight another day. Big boil, bluefish do not give up....and they have teeth. Fight continues, these fish followed the fly and attacked any time they pleased. Big bluefish of the marsh banks. Ahhhhh it's summer time and the summer flounder are hitting. They will come off the bottom for a meal but a nice Clouser in olive and white with some flash will turn their heads. A nice day to shad fish, warm sunny skies and a nice breeze taking the line off my right shoulder. First fish of 2016 a slab crappie! Hugh with a fall school striped bass taken on a white Cloused Minnow. Hickory shad....they jump like tarpon, fight hard for their size and fun to catch. My friend Johnny, from Cape Cod shot this albie being landed on shore, quickly released to fight another day. Action shot standing out on the second bar. More bass action in some tough conditions. Hard SE wind, cold water and air temps for the last days of May. Surf bass caught in the cut that runs along the beach. This is the face of pure evil and mean! They can see you very well out of the water and will bite you in a heartbeat! Big bluefish can almost take a finger off, they chomp not once but like three times hard...scary! Nice roe American shad on line fighting hard. Released to head to her spawning grounds in the upper Delaware River. Took a break from the salt and gave a shot to steelhead. Hooked three but only landed this little guy, took a egg pattern. Home waters striper on a Black Snake Fly, right in the wash with lots of white water. No moon and big surf, lightening off in the distance plus bait.....it just says bass. Tiny little school bass taken at night on a dock on Cape Cod. It saved the night, went home with some some fish scent on the hands. Another close up of a striper, this because of the pinks and lavender colors along with the sharp lines...stripers are beautiful. Nice school striper that banged the fly like a fish twice his size. July striper around pilings off Hoffman Is. The island was were immigrants that were sick were sent after reaching Ellis Is. Romer Shoal Light bass on a nice day. Seven hours non stop fishing for bluefish! Today's fish were in the teens with a personal best of 19.5lbs on the boga....not this fish, just a violent killer ;) A larger bluefish around 10lbs with a big popper in his teeth fill mouth.....they are unbelievably vicious fish. A nice small bluefish that took my popper. Had action for hours with fish to 12lbs. I work with children to teach them about the bay, marsh and ocean, found this little flounder in the net today.....released and sent on his merry way. Tough fighter these shad! Another nice roe sitting in the shallows, released safely. A nice roe before she leaves to finish her journey up stream. Action shots..jumping like a little tarpon and diving deep and running hard.....American Shad are tough. Shad fishing 2014, FINALLY got out to fish after a long long winter. Bang'n em! More striper action though slower than the day before which was cool, raining, NE wind in your face....bass weather. When the big stripers head south and a few hang around most of the fish are between 14 to 28 inches....a blast in the heavy surf on a 8wgt. Had my lucky new hat for today's adventure into the surf. Cold, raining, NNE winds hitting my face and some great looking surf! Nice fat fall striped bass, they were spraying sand eels as they boiled in the wash. I took this fish on a big herring fly.....wanted a meal for sure Fat chunk fall striper fell for a Clouser in the wash, a good hard fight. A nice 38 inch ready to be released, caught on one of my sand eel flys in olive tented grizzly hackle. This fish hit tight to me so I had the camera ready. The fish had heart and fought well for a school bass. School striped bass that ate a sandeel lime green/chartreuse/white tyed bend back style. Salmon River, NY king, what a fight! Hard fishing lately but I did have two small fish to keep my spirits up. Small school bass that attacked my Clouser from out of the rocks. For a little guy he had a big heart. A little better fish but lost a real nice fish to the rocks. The winning smallest game fish this cute striper. Underwater shot of a roe shad with the fly in her mouth. This is a prize for fly fishermen that fish from shore to catch these speedsters. My friend Johnny taking the hook out of my fish hooked as well. Stripes!
