Northeast Fishing

Fishing around the Northeast of the USA, one of the most populated places in the country yet there are lots of opportunities for some amazing fishing.
Dusk is a magic time for stripers in the surf. November has been great fishing for school bass in the 3lb to 5lb with the occasional double digits hanging around. Beautiful fall surf caught striper. Clouser minnow in "Fall Run" colors. The American shad run continues a good clip. Steady action all day on these hard fighters. Spring shad just don't quit. The Delaware is running high and fast yet I found excellent fishing. Fished "Gentleman's Hours" no early wake up and alone on the river. Spring bluefish are big and nasty! This one was kept for pictures for dinner for a friend so we took pictures with this one since they're usually all released. 2017 American Shad fishing starts off with a bang. Big roe shad were in no way easy to land, fish from 3 to 8+ pound fish. December surf fishing continues to produce some nice bass and huge bluefish. This bass was feeding in the rocks just out in front of the jetty. Landing a small striper out of nowhere, first cast with nothing showing. Thanks to Colin Archer for taking my picture....he's a photographer with a cool blog. This long fish was 36" but he didn't have the big gut of a fall fish. Hot surf action continues in the Northeast. Stripers and big big bluefish are in and out of the suds all day.......little guy! Hooked up on a huge bluefish, around 25lbs +/- being taken on a Nantucket Sleigh Ride......a.k.a. being dragged around in a plastic boat. Another fine fall striper. Today I had the biggest bluefish on my yak. It had to be 25lbs.....a true gorilla. Hollow fly in electric yellow and green about five inches. Hammered by this striper in tight to the beach, on the peanuts! Summer flounder in October!? Yeah, they are bigger and fatter in the fall......plus a hard fight in the surf. Finally landed a little tunny (a.k.a. false albacore) after several shots. The fall stripe bass season is off to a slow start but there are fish in the surf. Success, nice little tunny from shore. Albacore flats fishing, more exciting than any bonefish. The things burn out in shallow water and head for the deeper water just off shore. It's been a long hot summer! Fishing died early so I was off to find big game......fun fishing on the 4wgt. Hit a Crease Slider mini. Another monster bluefish pushing the high teens. You could loose a finger in that mouth! I put the camera in the water and just kept shooting. Nothing came out except this shot. Landed, a quick photo then released. Barbless hooks make it easy to not loose a finger! I'm hooked up to the yellow eye devil.....bluefish! The fight in the surf is the best. This striper was caught in among a big school of teen size bluefish. American Shad caught on the Delaware River. You can see the fly in the corner of the mouth. Today had big roe fish and few bucks, best fish of the year.....6lbs+ easy Monster bluefish at the 20lb mark! A personal best caught on a 7wgt!!!! A bluefish fighting hard all the way to the hand. Big broad head, flared gills and a bad attitude. Fish ran 12 to 16 pounds, into the backing, gills flared as they jump and teeth to take off a finger.....yeah my kind of fishing. For the past three days it's been a war! Big bluefish have moved in down the street and they came for a fight. If it's April it must be shad fishing time! Hit the Delaware River for the pre-runners of the main school and had a blast. Hugh with one of two he caught in the NJ surf after a big blow. We found clean deep water close to shore on a dropping tide. A nice November day on the surf in NJ. After a storm they were a little hard to find but persistence pays off. Ate a grey/white/pink Clouser, hard fight in the big surf and howling NW wind. As Mike's fish came close to me I stuck my camera in the water for this underwater shot. The fish took off on another blistering run and pop it was off. Made a new friend, Mike, here he is with a fish on. I released this albie after a quick picture. Hugh finally landed and released this speedster. He hooked a fish later on in the day and broke his rod and took his fly line and snapped in half!! Fish on for my good friend Hugh. Albie Alley on Martha's Vineyard, a great place to catch false albacore from shore.
