Fd: Where is Igloo Lake Lodge located and why has this area become so popular in the fly-fishing world?

Jim:
Our lodge is located 72 miles southeast of Goose Bay, Labrador on the Eagle River Plateau – it’s very remote, accessible only by floatplane. We have been catch & release since 2002. A great predictability on seeing an abundance of large brook trout take a dry fly.

Fd: What can you tell us about the fishing for those wonderful brookies?

Jim:
Most of our fishing areas are accessible via our new 23 foot fiberglass river boats. Some folks like to fish our many streams via wading and others like to present the dry fly to large brookies via sight fishing on the leeward side of Igloo Lake.

Fd: What other species can we find during our stay at Igloo?

Jim:
We have huge Northern Pike & Sucker fish. We have optional flyouts for large Atlantic Salmon (15 minutes from the Lodge) from July 10 to August 10 and we have an optional flyout for Arctic Char from August 15 to September 15.

Fd: What kind of gear would you recommend for these waters?

Jim:
5 to 7 weight rod for Brook Trout & Arctic Char and a 9 weight for Atlantic Salmon & Northern Pike.

Fd: What about the flies?

Jim:
The Atlantic Salmon bugs, Mickey Finn, Muddlers, Mayflies, Green Drake work well on trout. The Blue Charm, Green Machine, Black Bear Green Butt, White Wolf, Silver Doctor, all work well on Atlantic Salmon.

Mice work well on Pike (and large brook trout) - plastic Frogs work on the Pike as well. :)

Fd: Labrador is famous for its beauty and authentic wilderness, it must be great to finish a day of fine fishing relaxing in the lodge...

Jim:
We have been building new facilities & remodeling our older facility since 2011. We feel we have very comfortable and modern facilities at Igloo Lake. Photo’s of our accommodations are available on our website and Travel Directory profile here.

Fd: How does one get to Igloo Lake Lodge?

Jim:
One needs to fly to Goose Bay, Labrador on or before the day before one’s trip begins. We meet all our guests at the Airport and transport them to the local hotel where we pick up our guests the next morning for the flight to the beautiful Igloo Lake.

Fd: How long is the fishing season over there and how long before should anglers contact the lodge for reservations?

Jim:
Our season starts June 10 and ends September 15. Guests book sometimes 3 years out, while other guests book with us a couple of months prior to arrival. I would say the average guests books 1 year out.
