Fd: How did the idea of producing fly-fishing videos come up?
FFA: Further to the passion for fly fishing and for filmmaking, we decided to start this adventure because we wanted to introduce our river Tronto. Then the rest came alone.
Fd: What spots do you visit to make your films? What are the places that surprised you the most?
FFA: We don’t have particular preferences. We go from the mountain stream to the reservoir. Where we think there could be something interesting we act our cameras… The spots which surprised us the most are, without any doubts, the wild Alaska and we have the chance to fish often with the wonderful landscape of the Dolomites in front of us.

Fd: What kind of camera system do you use when you go filming outdoors?
FFA: Our equipment includes a DSLR with a list of lens starting from micro to medium-long bands, with three or four CAM actions.
Fd: How is the pre-production process? Do you think ideas, stories and particular sceneries or do you let stories emerge in each fishing trip?
FFA: Both of them. If we know the place of the next fishing trip we try to produce firstly a storyboard. Otherwise, when we arrive at the place, we try to produce one referring to the offered scenario, which is the funnier one. But that implies more work in post-production because we have to improvise and we are not doing this work as professionals, but only for passion.

Fd: Regarding filmmaking, do you have any influences or particular styles that you like?
FFA: We would be liars if we did not say that one of the inspiration source is the huge amount of films we had the fortune to watch. Besides of this, we always try to put something of our own experience, when possible. Also improvising, but only to make it one of our creations, and not because we are not confident in the guide lines of the professionals, which are light years ahead from us.
Fd: What kind of message do you want to give through your films?
FFA: This interview arrives at the right time because last Saturday 29th March, in the first “Tell me fishing video contest”, during the Italian stage of “Rise Festival Films”, we have been awarded in the category SOCIAL with the following explanation: “A testimonial of fishing which highlights the dimension of friendship and of the sharing”. So, this is the message which we want to give to the people who will watch our films.
Fd: Nowadays, most fishermen can film and edit a fishing video; what aspects do you think should be taken into account to make a good one?
FFA: I think that there are no secrets. When you are doing something, you don’t have to think about how to do it and if it will be appreciated or not, but you have to do it with passion and put all your feelings into it.

Fd: What’s next? Any upcoming material?
FFA: We have several alternatives, one includes a DVD, but we are really at the beginning of the project and therefore a lot of things have to be defined. We will try new rivers in the Dolomites, some of us planned a trip to Iceland too in serach of Salmo Salar.
Fd: Finally, what does fly fishing mean to you, and what do you enjoy the most from the whole process of making outdoor productions?
FFA: Fly fishing, as catch and release, to me means “Fish and let fish”. What I mostly like of the creation process of our films are two things: the release of the fish is always exciting to see, and also the meetings with friends with a good glass of beer to plan the next trips.
