Located in the very center of the most prolific 50-mile stretch of fishing water of the Rio Chimehuin, Patagonia River Ranch is both very private and pristine. Beautiful tree-lined roads, vegetable gardens, lavender fields, and rose gardens provide an idyllic environment that surrounds the guest facility. The ranch has a guest season from mid-November to mid-April, otherwise it is closed and totally private.
Once you step off the plane in the small resort town of San Martin de los Andes, you’ll be at the ranch in about 30 minutes. The typical guest stay is 6 days/6 nights, though some guests choose to stay longer than a week. You’ll unpack your bags one time, then settle in to enjoy our beautiful ranch setting and casually elegant guest lodge.
While our sensational trout fishing is

You can take part in horseback rides, hiking in the Andes, mountain biking, scenic river floats, camping trips, visits to National Parks, lake tours, kayaking, Argentine cooking classes, or shopping in San Martin de los Andes.
Patagonia River Ranch's master chef, Claudio, will prepare delicious meals sourced, in part, from gardens that surround the lodge. Additionally, Patricia, the sommelier and pastry chef, will spoil you with special desserts and fine wine.
The 35 person all-Argentine staff consists of talented and dedicated people who work hard to bring a week full of pleasure to each of our guests. There's a reason that each year 70% of our guests are return guests.

From a trout fishing standpoint, it’s difficult to imagine a more ideal location for offering an amazing and diverse fishing experience. You’ll have the opportunity to fish up to 6 rivers during your stay (depending on the river conditions and weather), all of which are easily accessible from our ranch. Then you’ll return to the Ranch at the end of each day. Furthermore, whatever the conditions, we have the flexibility and experience to put our guests on the waters that are fishing best during your visit.
This central location gives us easy access to the most famous rivers of Northern Patagonia, which includes the following:
- Chimehuin
- Caleufu
- Collon Cura
- Malleo
- Alumine
- Quilquihue
- Quemquemtreu
The Chimehuin River, which runs through the ranch, is View more... commonly known as the finest trout stream for large fish in Northern Patagonia. Our ranch’s location, in the center of the most productive 50-mile section of this river, allows our guests to float and wade-fish our “home water” from the nearest access point 20 miles upstream, and step off the boat at the end the day 100 yards from the lodge. We also can put in at the ranch to fish the lower section. No other fishing lodge or outfitter has the river location to accomplish this.
Our 8-person guide staff are all professional guides who are native Argentine, and they work only for us. They’ve grown up fishing our native waters and know these rivers intimately. They all speak excellent English, and are experienced fly fishing instructors. This means that if you’re a beginner, they’ll teach you to enjoy the sport of fly fishing, while catching a lot of fish at the same time. For more advanced anglers, you’ll get pointers on how to read the gin-clear rivers and catch more (and bigger!) fish. And a word about our German Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout… these are super strong fish. Once you hook into your first trout with us, you’ll see what we mean.
We are proud to provide top quality boats, trucks, trailers, tackle and other essentials that make executing our diverse fishing program easy and comfortable for our guests. We offer both float fishing and wade fishing, though for the most successful wading, the boats are used to reach places that would be impossible to access otherwise (instead of wade fishing exclusively on waters which are accessed only by foot).
A few other key things to know… we pride ourselves on offering an exclusive experience, as there won’t be other fishing guides or outfitters bringing their clients to PRR. You’ll have the ranch all to yourself. And since we have a strong desire to preserve the experience at the highest possible level, so we limit the number of guests each week (maximum of 16), and the overall bookings for each fishing season.
We invite you to come fish with us this season and enjoy the magic of Patagonia River Ranch!
Our casually elegant, yet luxuriously rustic guest lodge will provide for your daily comfort. The architecture is purely Argentine with the timeless look and feel of a distant era. All the common areas are furnished for casual comfort and a relaxed atmosphere.
The main lodge will comfortably host up to 16 guests. Patagonia River Ranch features spacious and well-appointed guest suites, each with its own private bath and breathtaking views of the surrounding river valley. The individual comforts include L’Occitane bath and body products and 500 thread-count sheets on each cozy bed.
