Santa Cruz Steelhead - Week #1
On the first week of April we welcomed the first group of Americans of this season at Los Plateados Atlantic Steelhead camp.
Three anglers fishing the mighty Santa Cruz for 6 days, chasing Steelhead in worlds last unspoiled river.
The first half day, after arriving, they got a taste of what this river has. Brian used his experience gained by fishing for years in BC to catch an 11 pounder on a high -yet clear- river, at Guanacos Bay, followed afterward by another two fish for the team.
Results: Three fish landed after the first half day for the three anglers.
The following day, the two zodiacs headed upstream to try some of the pools on the upper beat, where Power Plant and The Run shinned out.

Results: Three fish landed after the first half day for the three anglers.
The following day, the two zodiacs headed upstream to try some of the pools on the upper beat, where Power Plant and The Run shinned out.
The results of the second day, 8 fish hooked and 7 landed, with sizes that reached the 12 lb.
Day three had a great result as well, with 7 fish hooked with only 2 landed with certainly lots of action all over.
The adventure took the team even further up to see some of the most untouched water in a river thats not fished -at all-, reaching this pristine water for a treat. Big volcanic rocks and endless runs that delivered some really pretty fish.
For the last two days of the week, an unusual variation in the color of the water made the fishing a bit slower, but still managing to land a few more for the book.
The lamb “al asador” on the last evening topped the trip off for a group of great fishermen, and most important, great friends, trusting on us by following our destinations in south Patagonia.
Note: The micro weather in this valley is an exception to the rest of the south of Patagonia, and days of 15º-20º by noon are normal, with cool evenings, even entered autumn.
River temperature kept 6,5º along the week. Water colored started to clear up again by the last day.
