In the making of the Route of the Spring Creeks we started with this report of the first scouting and include also some data and pics from the whole season.
The beggining of November was time to scout new water and mainly spring creeks
Evethough the wind was over 50km and water was a bit high we were surprised by the cuality of the brooks that came out on the first day. All the four rivers in this route can be fish with a #4 weight takle and not taking the floating line out in 6 days of fishing.
We used streamers in the beggining and after we stopped counting the fish we tryed everything... mainly chernos in pretty good size!
The lodging is done inside authentic estancias and the scouting was also a way to try this old houses. All the acceses on this Route are inside private estancias so you usually share the fishing only with foxes, rheas and all kind of birds.
At the end of our scouting the numbers aproximately were, 20 fish a day with some brooks that reached 3,5 kilos. Water was flowing in this part of the season so we decide to set up the route only in the best weeks from December to end of February. Browns were only in two of the rivers and the best one was over 2,5 kilos.
The best thing is that there are so many kilometers of water that you hardly repeat a spot. Only if you lost a huge fish like in my case that I estimated it could reach 4 kilos, and I will have to visit him again soon!
One last comment is that all this rivers are creeks, small with a lot of movement in the ground, so you need to be smooth to step over the grass or you can spoke them before you cast a line.
The weather is usually windy but warm on those dates! Next report will include certain weeks and number of fish.
