His Chum Baby is a thin little fly pattern he has developed specifically for the Sea-run cutthroat trout and chum salmon off the west coast. In the spring, when coho and coastal cutthroat trout are feeding on chum salmon fry, the Chum Baby fly pattern is a must-have pattern for anglers who don't like getting skunked. This is the original pattern, but many variations have been developed including some with color changes and flashier wings. The fly can be tied either with the bead for fishing deep or bead-less for targetting fish at the surface on the prowl for easy prey. There is no need to limit the fly to saltwater fishing as it converts to a great little pattern for fishing lakes and rivers for any piscivorous species.
