Martin Aylwin Fernandez

I was very fortunate to meet Martin in 2012. He contacted me asking for my help in becoming a better fly casting instructor. That started a friendship and professional relationship that lead Martin to come visit me twice in the U.S. for coaching (and some fishing!), and eventually pass both the IFFF CI and MCI tests.
Martin is very knowledgeable in all areas of fly fishing and fly casting, and instruction. He is an excellent instructor, I strongly recommend him.

Martin met five years ago, just when Claudio -my partner- moved from traditional fishing to fly fishing.

In those days I could barely hold the fishing rod. For me it was very nice to have a teacher who could teach in a personalized way , no matter that I was left-handed.

Beside him we took our first steps of specialization, with great technical and human advantage, because his classes were truly comprehensive: He not only taught us throwing techniques and methods of nymph fishing , streamers and dryflies ... We also learned to know currents waters and enthomology understand of each zone of river.

In short, Martin develops a patient, applied and rigorous teaching , which transcends the limits of technology , conveying giving us generously and privileged access to the world of fly fishing and its values of care and conservation of nature.

I feel very grateful to have him as a teacher.

I've been working along with Martin for the last two years in fly fishing related activities and I can honestly say that he is the most prominent referent of our sport in Chile.

His passion for fly fishing and the spreading of the culture that goes along it, is unparalleled on these latitudes and I'm glad I've had the opportunity to work with him. He's been striving hard to raise the bar on the level of fly fishing as it has been traditionally practiced in Chile, making bonds with those international institutions that can lead us in this regard (IFFF, Argentinean fly fishing guides and schools).

The result of these efforts is Andes Anglers Chile fly fishing school, in which we hope to educate a new generation of fly fishers, more aware of the international state of the art regarding the practice of our sport, and with a strong accent in the conservation of our ecological and fishing resources.

Martín es el mejor instructor de pesca que se pueda tener en Chile y probablemente en Sudamérica. He sido alumno de Martín en cuatro oportunidades y tenido la suerte de pescar con él en la zona central de Chile y en Patagonia. Tienen un dominio práctico y teórico del lanzamiento que transite en cosa de horas. Además enseña asertivamente desde nudos hasta el comportamiento de las truchas.
Su pasión por la pesca es casi contagiosa, siempre atento y dispuesto a ayudar a sus alumnos más allá de lo profesional.

Martin is the best Fly Fishing instructor you can have in Chile and probable South America. I having his student four times and I have been lucky enough to fish together in Central Chile and Patagonia. Martin has a mastery casting knowledge that is able to transfer within hours in both practical and theoretical aspects
His passion about fly fishing is almost contagious, always attentive and willing to help students beyond professional obligation.

Mi experiencia de alumno con Martín ha sido, gratificante como también muy entretenida. De los varios cursos que he tomado, se puede apreciar el enorme conocimiento (y dedicación que existe detrás como, horas de estudio, certificaciones, etc...) y compromiso que tiene con la pesca con mosca, ese compromiso, interesa y entusiasma al alumno a saber o indagar con mayor grado de que se trata este deporte. My experience with Martin as a student has been rewarding as entertaining. From the several classes that i have taken with him, you can tell the huge knowledge (result of hours of dedication and study,not just to get the certifications but for the students) that he has and also you can see the commitment to fly fishing, that commitment, makes you more interested and excited about what fly fishing is all about.
