Cow Creek itself is spring-fed from Elk Mountain about 6 miles north of the ranch. It flows
parallel to the Pecos River, one valley to the east, and is a tributary to the Pecos River by I-25.
Because of its high elevation, the runoff is usually finished by the first week of May, and the
stream maintains a fairly steady flow throughout the summer months.
There are seven high mountain lakes at the ranch, as well as one small pond, appropriately named
“The Brookie Pond.” Each lake is very different from the others and has something unique to offer,
whether it is a special hatch or just the right water temperature. Everyone seems to have his own
favorite lake. The best thing to do is fish them all and pick your favorite. Lakes 1 and 7 are the
largest of the lakes and are good lakes to float tube.
Cow Creek Ranch continues to be one of the most desirable places to fly fish in New Mexico.
The ranch offers exclusive overnight rental of the lodging facility for larger groups, overnight rental of the owner's cabin for smaller groups, day rental of the lodge for events, and guided day fishing trips.
A three night minimum stay is required for weekend rental of the lodging facility and a two night minimum stay is required for weekday rental of the lodging facility. A minimum of 6 people is required in order to rent the lodge. Check-in time is 2:00p.m. and check-out time is 10:00a.m. The lodge can accommodate up to 25 people for overnight use.
The charming rooms in the lodge, each with fireplace and private bath, combine luxury with traditional western ambience. The lodge offers 11 rooms with accommodations for a maximum of 25 guests at a time with a variety of twin, queen and king rooms.
Guests may make reservations to book the owner's cabin on the ranch property either as overflow when booking the main lodge at Cow Creek Ranch or as a separate reservation from the main lodge. This cabin gives guests the ability to enjoy the area if they have a smaller group and may not be interested in booking the ranch and the main lodge. It is the perfect rental for a small group of fishing buddies, hunters looking to stay close to their hunt, or for folks just looking for a weekend getaway.
The cabin is located on a hillside overlooking Cow Creek and is close to the main entrance to the property. The cabin has two bedrooms and two bathrooms and can accommodate 1-6 people. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other bedroom has a queen bed and a bunk bed. The cabin is fully stocked with dishes and kitchen necessities, has dish TV, a grill, and a very large covered wrap around porch.
Guided day fishing trips are also available at the ranch. Guided trips run full day: 9:00am - 6:00pm with an hour lunch or half day: 9:00am - 1:00pm or 2:00pm - 6:00pm.
