Con ya cerca de dos décadas en las aguas del Río Yelcho, cada año llegan los salmones King (Chinook) apoderándose de las aguas principalmente entre los meses de febrero, marzo y parte de abril.
En busca de su lugar de nacimiento estos ejemplares penetran el Río Yelcho en varias y grandes oleadas desde el mar, siendo el Rio Yelcho en particular, donde se aposentan aveces por varios días en diferentes sectores del río.
Después de crecer y pasar aveces, varios años en el océano, almacenando gran cantidad de energía, estos gigantes remontan dejando de lado la comida, por lo que, al ser agredidos en su sensible, pero agresiva época de apareamiento, una vez atrapados son capaces de pelear por hasta una hora agotando sin duda las fuerzas de ambos adversarios, es quizás por esta razón que, atrapar algunos de estos gigantes del mar muchas veces se convierte en el hecho de estar en la hora, el día y en el lugar indicado.
