Amazon Streaker

The primitive Streaker owes its name to its effectiveness when it is stripped at high speed. It was originally designed for catching sea species in southern California. Yet, we have adapted it to fish for trout, peacock bass, golden dorado, by adding some changes according to the different waters.Th Ver más...

Pasos

Paso 1

Finished fly view.

Paso 2

Tie between 6 and 8 blue holographic tinsel strands (or flashabou).

Paso 3

Do not trim yet.

Paso 4

Carefully tie a BASF fibers bundle, we will then bend it so don’t use too much. These have perfect texture and Angel Hair, a fine flashabou that adds fantastic life and brightness.

Paso 5

Carefully bend the BASF fibers and tie firmly. Cement with cyanoacrylate to reinforce. An important detail to give the fly a good shape is to make the upper bundle (the one that will be bent over) longer than the one that will remain below. This way we will get a tapered shape.

Paso 6

Add 4 tinsel or flashabou strands and tie a chartreuse bundle of BASF fibers on top. Tie at the the middle and bend.

Paso 7

Take the thread to the center of the hook evenly and tie 6 herl strands that will make the under wing.

Paso 8

It’s time to tie the pair of peacock swords. It must be broad and symmetric, we will need a right wing and a left one. The best ones are metallic green (brighter than blue ones), these imitate perfectly sardine and other fishes’ backs. The pair of wings is tied in the head of the fly, so the tying thread should be there.

Paso 9

Tie the pale blue BASF fibers sides. Tie the bundle almost in the middle, the front part should be shorter. Repeat on the other side.

Paso 10

Bend the BASF fibers bundle and tie as we did with the tail. This way the symmetric hairs don’t loosen (as it happens if we tie it by the tip only). If done carefully, we can bend both at the same time.

Paso 11

In the same way, tie the yellow fibers. One only bundle, but a bit thicker.

Paso 12

Once the belly is bent and tied, cut the thread and take the fly off the vise. Shape the sides, belly and tail with sharp scissors to get the correct fish shape. Sides and belly should have the size of the hook and the tail gets thinner. Look at the fly from the front to check if the trimming is even. Compare this picture with the one of the previous step and you will see the silhouette differences. From the thick part of a saddle or a soft orange schlapen, take a bundle of fibers and tie it as a Ver más...

Paso 14

To finish the fly, carefully mix two equal parts of transparent 5-minute epoxy and apply to make a conic head, turning the fly so it doesn’t drip.
