Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report
Spring time means busy tarpon season for most flats guides in Florida. However, not every day during the season offers ideal conditions for tarpon fishing... weather conditions such as cloud cover, rain, wind and fish whereabouts can make tarpon fishing difficult some days to say the least.
Those days always offer better chances of success for other species if you're able to adapt and adjust. Also, I get a few clients that are either not interested in big tarpon fishing or that don't have the necessary casting skills (flyfishing) and want to get started with "easier" targets. Those clients usually get rewarded with really good fishing.

I've been out mixing it up a bit in the park, putting clients on good fishing for different species. There's been a lot of big snook cruising around on the flats and mangrove shorelines. Most days we have had the spots to ourselves as everybody is busy after tarpon. Some nice fish over 30 inches have been caught flyfishing.
The redfish have been plentiful and have had days hooking as many as 10 on fly. The seatrout have been bitting very well on the flats and deeper moats. Puglisi streamers and soft plastics have been landing plenty of them. Tripletail have been hanging off channel markers and buoys out in the Gulf. Nothing beats a live shrimp under a float for the spin caster but a well presented small baitfish or weightless shrimp fly pattern are very effective as well.
