Though officially established in 1928, Cabin Bluff’s long and storied history starts more than a century before. After experiencing great success cultivating Sea Island Cotton, the Floyd family founded The Camden Hunt Club in 1827 on the property now known as Cabin Bluff. Often credited as being the first members-only hunting club in the US, the club hosted hunting parties, shooting competitions, horse and dug-out boat races (with purses upwards of $10,000), as well as balls and dinners for the region’s prominent plantation owners and their guests.

Mr. Coffin founded Cabin Bluff in 1928 as a world-class hunting and fishing destination for wealthy southerners and northeasterners who sought escape from life’s daily pressures. He envisioned Cabin Bluff as a perfect combination of simple pleasures, with no loss of luxury or comfort. During his ownership Cabin Bluff garnered a respected reputation as host to Presidents, wealthy industrialists and distinguished sporting enthusiasts from around the world.
Virtually everywhere at Cabin Bluff, history is present. You’ll see a century of moments suspended in time through photographs, decades-old books and treasured artifacts. Perhaps the most startling sight is a well-preserved 13-foot alligator mounted overhead in the lodge, present since 1930.
Cabin Bluff to this day retains a rough-hewn quality, yet has not relinquished its standing as a destination built upon simple elegance and attention to service and enjoyment. The retreat is a warm and welcoming host for any corporate retreat, customer trip, or family gathering. Specializing in groups smaller than 40, events at Cabin Bluff are exclusive, uncomplicated and as genuine as the historic property itself.

Fishing along the Intercoastal Waterway is something to behold at Cabin Bluff. We lead daily excursions by boat along the Cumberland River, fishing the many estuaries that dot the shoreline near Cumberland Island. There you’ll find spotted sea trout, sheepshead, red drum, and many other inshore species in abundance. Despite ever changing conditions, our seasoned fishing guides stay tuned into what is biting and where, ensuring you make the most of your time on the water.
Of course, if you want to stay a little closer to camp, our peaceful and picturesque fishing dock is well known as one of the best spots to fish along the Cumberland River.

Sight fishing
Few things captivate an outdoorsman as much as fly fishing - as much art as it is sport. Cabin Bluff is a fly fishing dream with quiet flats that allow you to tie your best Clouser minnow, saltwater popper or shrimp. Chase schools of redfish, tarpon and trout that inhabit the marshes, rivers, and coastline alongside Cumberland Island. The sport is all about precision, so if you’ve never tried it, or are just a bit rusty, fly fishing lessons are available.

Ample space for up to four anglers and equipped with state of the art navigational, fish-finding, and safety equipment, the Cobia is our favorite for off-shore trips. A single 300hp Yamaha 4 stroke powers this 24’ Pathfinder. With plenty of dry storage for gear and the latest in fish-finding and navigational equipment, it’s the perfect boat for a day of inshore fishing. Minn Kota I-Pilot trolling motor and power poles make for easy navigation in shallower waters.

Recently renovated, our guest cabins provide 20 private rooms with private baths, allowing no more than 40 guests to enjoy Cabin Bluff at any given time, ensuring a most private and uncrowded experience.
