The Lodge
The main Lodge and seven individually appointed guest cabins have evolved from what was once a rustic fishing camp into one of the world's finest sporting lodges.
The Lodge, perched above the 'home pool' on the Taharua River, exudes a warm welcome. Whether its afternoon tea by the crackling log fire, après activity drinks and finger food around the bar or canapés and pre dinner cocktails on the deck enjoying the setting sun the atmosphere is relaxed and informal.
Guests are joined by their guide each evening making for lots of lively, convivial conversation. Sharing stories with fellow adventurers is often the catalyst for long term friendships.
The Lodge kitchen is renowned for its gourmet food, expertly prepared by our team of chefs who pride themselves in sourcing local Ver más...ly.

The ultimate fly fishing experience is being surrounded by spectacular scenery and casting a dry fly over a big, wild trout in a crystal clear stream. At Poronui we aim to provide that experience to our guests every day, whether by 4WD or helicopter fly out. We can also arrange lake fishing by private charter boat on Lake Taupo.

We recommend our heli fishing programme which provides easy access to many of New Zealand's most famous mountain rivers and more remote streams only a short flight away. The flight itself is the ultimate exhilarating experience.
Walking and 4WD access:
All of our guides operate 4WD vehicles. The easily accessible waters on the property offer an opportunity for the classic fly fishing experience of stalking and sight casting to browns and rainbows in shallow, clear water.
Overnight Camp Outs:
For the more adventurous angler seeking a unique outdoor experience we recommend staying overnight at one of our streamside camps. Whether cosy in a mountain hut or sleeping under canvas the experience of a star-littered sky above, the crackling of the campfire, the taste of bush brewed coffee and the sound of nearby flowing water - holding the promise of tomorrow - is unbeatable.
